The VOMIT Journaling System
VOMIT is a system of journalling created by struthless.
V — Vent
- “Write what makes you angry” — Po Bronson
- helps you over the hurdle of starting
- helps externalizing stuff going around in your brain
O — Obligations
- mind-dumping responsibilities
- use your brain to solve problems, not store problems
- actionables
- obligation dump
- organize
- prioritize
- one guiding question: ==will it make the boat go faster?==
- Tim Ferris: Which thing, on this list, if done, would make everything else easier?
- bare minimum + killing it
M — Mindset
- Reframing: “How is this the best thing to ever happen to me?”
- Possibility
- “because…”
- write an identity statement: “I am healthy”
- find reasons while the identity is true
- Inversion
- When you’re stuck on a questoin, invert it, ask the opposite to make the answer clearer
- “I want to draw more” —> how can I draw less
- Perspective
- other people’s problems are much easier to solve than your own
- if you were a friend who was giving you advice on this situation right now (and you REALLY REALLY wanted you to succeed) — what advice would you give?
- Discipline
- Gratitude
- what are 3 things that you’re grateful for today
- something mundane
- something that happened by chance
- something that you made happen
I — Ideate
- write idea list
- write out 30 answers in 5 minutes, see [[Ideaflow]]
- don’t edit the list
- “How would [blank] solve this problem?”
- Open the loop
- write the question —> go to sleep —> hopefully have a solution
T — Trajectory
- Direction
- write down goal: I want to save a thousand bucks
- are you moving away from that goal, or towards?
- evidence
- write down plan / actionables
- Day-to-Day
- hidden metrics: intangible things like happiness or peace of mind
- make hidden metrics visible
- three questions
- What excited me today?
- What drained me of energy?
- What did I learn?
- for three days
